Sleepaway Camp Reboot Limited Series Update

The BIGGEST question I get asked from SLEEPAWAY CAMP fans all across the globe is of course "When is the next SLEEPAWAY CAMP being made?" Well here is the latest answer from Creator/Director/Rights-holder Robert Hiltzik himself. As of June 2020, Robert has decided to turn our SLEEPAWAY CAMP reboot movie into a limited series on one of the big streaming platforms. So instead of one 90-minute movie, we are looking at 8 to 10 episodes!! The process of turning the new script into approximately 360 minutes is going to take some time. But that is the direction we are heading at this point. With the coronavirus changing so many things in the film industry, streaming platforms are even bigger than ever. And isn't it even more exciting to think of 360 minutes of SLEEPAWAY CAMP than 90 minutes!?? The series will feature many of the characters from the original 1983 movie. Ronnie, Ricky, Judy, Angela…yep, they're all there. Of course they would be played by a new cast since they are mostly teenagers, but the iconic story will be back with a whole slew of creative new murders and twists and turns. The story takes place now and not during the 80's, unlike the recent "AMERICAN HORROR STORY: 1984" which was set at summer camp in the mid-'80s. Hiltzik will be converting the new movie script into the new limited series format and plans to direct at least the first and final episodes of the series. And that's the plan for now.

SLEEPAWAYCAMPMOVIES.COM is now over 2 DECADES old! We've been camping online since the late '90s and having an incredible adventure working on all the DVD and Blu Ray releases with Anchor Bay and Scream Factory! Reuniting actors and directors! Bringing exclusive videos and interviews to the fans all across the world. Recording commentary tracks and meeting fans of the series at conventions! Thank you to all the fans worldwide for sharing your eternal support of SLEEPAWAY CAMP and our Online CampGround here!

February 2020 found the "Shit Sisters" reunited at the DAYS OF THE DEAD convention in Atlanta. Amy "Jodi Shote" Fields saw her screen sister Carole "Brooke Shote" Chambers for the first time in 3 decades! Amy says of the event, "It was great to see Carole again and the Sleepaway Camp fans are awesome!" The convention held a SLEEPAWAY 2 and 3 Reunion with some of the cast from those movies getting their first chance to meet some of the fans.

2019 was ANOTHER BIG YEAR for SLEEPAWAY SCREENINGS where Robert Hiltzik and Jeff Hayes coordinated screenings in Germany and all across the USA. 2020 has obviously been a different animal due to the coronavirus pandemic…but hopefully 2021 will see more SLEEPAWAY CAMP in movie theaters across the world.

It is with great sadness that we have to report that one of the greatest horror conventions in the USA, ROCK N SHOCK in Worcester MA is saying goodbye due to "becoming more about profit than the fan experience".

When it's more about profit and less about the fan experience, that's the end of the line. Horror movie fans are some of the most passionate and genuine people in this world. They support careers and movie franchises and the last thing they need is to get ripped off by the people whose work they have supported for years. It's truly a sad day that it has come to this in the world of horror conventions. We will miss you ROCK N SHOCK and we can only hope that the future of horror conventions starts to care more about the fans who support them and less about getting every last penny out of their pockets.

And finally, in some exciting news to conclude this update: Tony Timpone, former editor-in-chief of FANGORIA MAGAZINE, will be bringing back the WEEKEND OF HORRORS-style convention in June 2021 in New Jersey. And tentatively scheduled to appear and talk about the movie that started it all is creator/director Robert Hiltzik himself! We'll let you know as the time gets closer if and when you'll be able to meet him at the show. If Robert goes, he will be signing complimentary autographs and will appear with other guests such as Hellraiser creator Clive Barker and Friday the 13th creator Sean Cunningham!
